Brief History

Scott Jones, General Manager and owner of IT Leaders, was born and raised on a small farm in Northern NSW.  With excellent scholastic results but no desire to study, Scott moved to the Gold Coast and worked in sales until he landed an IT contract with an R&D company (ViaScan). Over the next 4 years this allowed Scott to develop various skills and realise he had a passion for business.

“One of my fondest memories of Viascan is working with the National Operations Manager, pouring over highly detailed budget spreadsheets, modifying the content and structure for submission to the board.”

During his time at Viascan, Scott also built and sold computers on the weekends as a hobby; learning the dynamics of buying and selling, and how to make a reliable margin in a low margin industry.  While doing this hobby, he became aware of the frustration small businesses experienced trying to access reliable IT help. There seemed to be a lack of quality providers,  (in South-East QLD at least), and the idea was born to fill this gap.

“To me, this spelled opportunity. With computers becoming the backbone of the SME marketplace, my vision was to build skilled teams of IT staff and provide excellent service at an affordable price.”

With $10,000 saved from his contracting role, he started IT Leaders, employed his first staff member, and rented a warehouse on the Gold Coast. Seven years later, there are two branch locations, over 15 staff, a rapidly expanding product and services line, and a growth rate in excess of 50% year on year.

In 2008, IT Leaders partnered with N-able, becoming one of Australia’s first IT Managed Services Providers in the SME sector.

“Fixed price IT services is all about creating unarguable win-win scenarios for clients.  More than ever IT Leaders is now focused on tuning the technology in it’s clients’ businesses to produce greater profit.”

In 2009 Scott launched a new boutique data centre with a focus on cloud computing, Software as a Service (SAAS) and having specific strengths in bundling hosted virtual servers with complete service packages.

In 2010 the focus has increased on “Private Cloud Computing” with IT Leaders having now refined a cutting edge product suite that completely outsources business server hardware and software, and wraps a complete support package around it. The business clients that have shifted to this model already now enjoy almost complete elimination of IT capital expenditure, and a highly simplified and effective IT systems and support. Cloud Computing with IT Leaders is the future of business technology.

2010 and beyond will see a ramp up of the IT managed services division, Cloud Computing division, the ramp up of his joint ERP software, StreamLeader, and partnering on projects in software integration, specialist IT recruitment, and turnkey software solutions for micro businesses.
