History of IT Leaders

in 2001, while working for a technology R&D company, Scott became aware of the frustration small businesses experienced trying to access reliable IT help. There seemed to be a lack of quality providers,  (in South-East QLD at least), and the idea was born to fill this gap.

“In early 2002 IT Leaders was launched with $10,000 in the bank and a dream.  It was always my intention to build myself out of the daily operations of the business, even from day one.  This was due in no small part to reading two particular books that influenced me heavily right before I quit my contracting job. “

Over the next 2 years the business grew quickly, with Scott putting in massive hours to ensure that he never lost a client.

“I worked 100 hour weeks, grabbed naps when I could, and developed business systems and growth strategies in my ’spare’ time.”

Like most small startups, it was horibly undercapitalised and underskilled in business talents.  A passion for business does not make a good businessman; only time, challenge and education can do that. So Scott came to view the first two years of IT Leaders as a trial-by-fire alternative to a formal business education, and with a survivalist twist.

“I sold everything I owned to fund growth. Motorbike, guitars, furniture - if it wasn’t bolted down, or essential for the business, it went.  At one stage I lived on rolled oats and fruit because it was cheap and nutritious, and slept in the loft of my warehouse. But I loved what I was doing, and believed in the vision.”

IT Leaders grew 310% in its second year, and has maintained an annual growth of over 35% every year since.
Every year it has added more products and services to it’s offerings. Scott attributes much of his success to developing induction processes that helped sort the wheat from the chaff, and grow an elite team of highly ethical staff.

 Future of Business Computing

Scott is always on the cutting edge of technology, assessing all of the new trends and tech, to decide which are merely fads, and which are about to reshape the way the do business.

In 2009 IT Leaders invested heavily in developing cloud computing infrastructure, even as it was still perfecting and expanding it’s last big shift into IT Outsourcing (manged services).  The move into the Cloud space defines the third major evolution of the IT Leaders group in the 8 years since it began.  This shows the speed at which technology is shifting.

In 2010 the new Leading Hosting Cloud Division of IT Leaders invested further in Scott’s belief that by 2015 75% of SME businesses would no longer run their own servers in house.   The early take up of IT Leaders Private Cloud Services by existing and new clients, has suggested this prediction has merit.

Future of IT Leaders

Scott believes in a “Utility Computing” vision for business technology in the future and has set a course for the IT Leaders Group which will see IT Leaders become the Australian leader in this field and the cloud services provider of choice nationally over the next few years.

The vision of IT Leaders has shifted now
from simply deploying and maintaining IT infrastructure,
to also finding new and innovative ways to prove value
by improving client business productivity.
