Some people respond to that by lowering expectations, and that is a reasonable approach. It’s perhaps also the approach taught by many spiritual leaders – when you want for nothing more than is in front of you in this moment, you cannot be unhappy or unsatisfied.
But all of the achievements of humanity have stemmed from dissatisfaction; from a belief that something more is possible. Creativity is spawned from a vision of what MIGHT be. Determination is driven by the desire for something other than what already is.
Those people who have pursued this to its extremes have become the most significant humans in history. Sometimes the most hated, sometimes the most loved, never invisible. Often maligned in their own time, thought of as crazy, burned at the stake. Going against the grain, questioning the ‘truth’. Annoying others with their dogmatic persistence to creating things that may appear unnecessary, or downright insane.
Today’s obviously brilliant new creation was yesterday a ripple in the mind of a crazy man.
So I salute you. The crazy, the different, the extreme. The ones who follow their intuition despite the doubts. The ones who act despite fear, who push beyond their known edges. The ones who stand in the face of adversity, who pick battles they cant win because they feel it’s right. Who refuse to stay down despite one hundred failures. Who loathe mediocrity more than pain. The dissatisfied with the courage to act and the persistence to continue when any reasonable person would have quit.
